Exciting new opportunity for young people aged 14-19 who find themselves at risk of becoming disengaged from education employment or training.
The Cornwall Marine Network has identified funding to offer 340 to young people at risk of becoming NEET, places on their Clipper Challenge Programme. Each programme will take a cohort of 20, the young people will take part in 2 days intensive training and assesment in crewing a Clipper. They will have opportunities to enjoy team building activities and gain knowledge of first aid and sailing. The programme will take place at Lusty Glaze and at the end of the programme the clipper team will select 10 of the 20 strong cohort to take part in a 7 day residential sailing experience, with the possibility of sailing around the Isle of Wight or to the Channel Islands.
Those not selected for the full sailing experience will be offered the opportunity to take part in 6 days of water based activities at the Elemental Water Sports Centre, where they can expect to engage in a variety of sports including Kayaking, Coasteering, Canoeing and Life guarding experiences.
These places are for those who could really benefit from an opportunity to experience a week long commitment to team building and water based activity. All water proof and safety equipment will be provided, the course is appropriate for non-swimmers and funding can be sought for childcare.
